A Guide To Legal Service Plans

A Guide To Legal Service Plans
By James Redder

For many almost eighty years a system using prepaid legal plans has been commonplace in Europe and is now seeing favor in the United States. Now most legal firms are able to offer this legal plan service to all sorts of people and businesses and as the interest continue to grow, other types and levels of legal service plans are introduced. The most basic plans are the most popular and are more than enough for the average citizen as they pay their membership premium, a little like an insurance policy; each month or a yearly premium and then receive legal help in many areas.

Prevention is the keyword with the legal plan service as it is believed that if issues are dealt with as they arise they can be resolved without the cost of going to court to have a ruling made. These plans are also helpful to businesses and people that require legal advice about issues that may be affecting them although he fist consultation might be over the phone, there are no charges associated with these meetings. There generally isn't any restriction on the number of times you can contact your attorney and this enables people to obtain what is in essence very low cost legal advice on a wide range of topics.

Even 'Last Will and Testaments' are included in these legal plans with the option of yearly updates plus they usually provide for the lawyer to make phone calls and write letters representing your interests. If you consider how often a dispute can be cleared up when a lawyer intervenes you can see one of the obvious benefits to this service. It is also useful when legal contracts are presented, or sales agreements to have your lawyer look over them for any problems that could arise once they have been signed.

You will only have to pay extra but usually discounted, if you require your lawyer to attend court with you or additional legal help not part of the legal plan. There are a variety of legal plans available and the most basic plan is the individual or family plan; many legal service plans also offer business coverage, where they provide basic legal services tailored for a business. Many companies are now arranging legal services plans for their workers, usually at a reduced premium; if you are really fortunate, for free and now very specialized areas of the workforce have their own legal plan like truckers for instance.

Summary

Like many health plans, legal plans will not normally cover ongoing complaints as they are designed to be a preventative type of service with the lawyer freely available. Situations like this could include a divorce, bankruptcy or other type of lawsuit which would net be covered under the terms and conditions of a legal services plan but in all probability, the hourly rate of your lawyer would be reduced for you. A legal plan service is a way for middle class Americans to have the access to attorneys that used to be the province of the wealthy; having a plan is a great way to help keep yourself out of legal trouble with preventative assistance, but it won't solve all of your legal problems.
